The Michigan Dance Team is a competitive dance group that aims to represent and support the University of Michigan positively through spirit. The team was founded 20 years ago and is currently the highest ranked Division 1A college dance team in the state. The team is composed of 16-24 undergraduate girls each who all come from a variety of majors, but share a common passion of dance. The Michigan Dance Team is considered a Club Sport, which means that we are a self-run team led by the Executive Board. The Executive Board consists of five team-elected members: two Captains, Treasurer, Public Relations, and Fundraising/Marketing Coordinator.
You can find the team supporting U of M Athletics at many varsity sporting events including all home football games, Men's and Women's home basketball games, soccer, tennis, and wrestling. The team also supports the University and its students at other campus events throughout the year.
Additionally, the Michigan Dance Team represents U of M at the Universal Dance Association's (UDA) National Cheerleading and Dance Team Championship held in Orlando, Florida every January. This past nationals in January 2009, the Michigan Dance Team took home 6th place in the nation for Division 1A Dance, and 11th place is Division 1A Hip Hop.
